Yes, I have a road map and I'm available for school visits! I have visited both primary and secondary schools, usually speaking to pupils from year 5 through to year 8.

I do a humorous, highly embellished talk featuring a Powerpoint presentation, during which audiences will gain some truly fascinating insights into the genesis of some of the characters in my books, such as Varaminta le Bone, Elsie Silk and LJ Sylva – as well as the stories themselves. I also talk about ME. How I became a writer, and not an artist or a fashion designer. My first, rubbish job; how I write – that kind of thing. The talk lasts for about 45 minutes, giving plenty of time for a question and answer session. One question that hasn't come up for some time is, 'where do you get your ideas'? That's because I've answered it! Instead, we get into a bit of a discussion about some of the situations my characters get into, and what might happen next.
I am also available for workshops; these have been variously themed around the Lulu Baker books (magic recipes), Toonhead (storytelling with words & pictures) and the Silk Sisters (fantasy boarding school; human chameleon). These can take 1-2 hours; I can tailor the workshops to your needs. With younger children, my background as an illustrator means I can help them with any accompanying artwork as well.

I am a member of the Society of Authors, and charge the recommended minimum £300 for a full day, or £200 for a half day, plus travel expenses (I live in London).
Teachers, please note: I would like to bring copies of my books to sell. If you are happy for me to do this, I will really appreciate it if you do a little bit of advance planning; please let the pupils know a bit about my books in advance, and suggest they bring in spending money. I guarantee they will appreciate it!
Please contact me for details on tailoring the visit to your needs; I'm flexible. Thank you!
“The kids really enjoyed it…they're still queuing up to read your books, and we have a permanent Fiona Dunbar display and demand is high.”
- Frances Green, librarian, Haberdasher’s Monmouth School
‘The day proved to be not only hugely popular with the children, but has also stimulated a much greater interest in the processes necessary to produce a quality work of fiction. Thank you for your time…informative, evocative and inspirational.”
- Victoria Nemeth, librarian, Highgate School
